Formerly Known as Farmer Jim™ Produce

Our commitment to local, farm direct, organic produce goes a step further than most markets. Farmer JimFormer owner Jim Canepa, the heart and soul of Mill Valley Market, was "Farmer Jim." He loved the farming life and grew beautiful organic fruits and vegetables for the market on a small farm in Glen Ellen, that we sold labeled as Farmer Jims Produce.

Although Jim Canepa passed away in October 2007, his sons Doug and David, and grandsons Ryan and Wesley, are committed to continue what he started.

During 2008, Doug and David increased the land under cultivation so that the selection of home grown organic produce could be expanded at Mill Valley Market. In 2010 Farmer Jim's Produce was renamed Mill Valley Market Farm.

Local

Located less than 35 miles north of the Mill Valley Market, our four acre Glen Ellen farm sits in the heart of Sonoma. The close proximity of our farm minimizes our carbon footprint as lesser amounts of fossil fuels are needed to transport our produce. Also, it enables us to provide fresh, high quality produce to our customers the same day it is harvested.

Organic

Mill Valley Market Farm is CCOF certified, meaning our farming methods follow strict organic guidelines. No synthetic herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, insecticides or fertilizers are applied to our farm. We rely soley on naturally based substances, that are sourced in ways that are not detrimental to the environment. These practices protect the surrounding watershed, our environment and you, the consumers of our produce.

Sustainable

Using vegetable scraps and coffee grounds from the Mill Valley Market, as well as horse manure from Horse Hill, our soil is maintained through a combinatioin of compost and manure. The reuse of organic waste from the Mill Valley Market, not only serves as a great soil booster, it also allows us to reduce the amount of waste produced. We also include cover crops in our rotation to improve our soil's health and fertility.
